“It’s all
about the boat!” That is a favorite saying of one of my friends on the journey.
I’ve been finding myself getting more nervous about heading to Chicago as the
time gets nearer. This morning I got a God sized bop on the head, which knocked
some sense into me. You see, today’s
Gospel was about Peter and the disciples being out on the sea in not so great
conditions when Jesus appeared to them. Wondering if it really was him, Peter asks
Jesus to tell him to come to him on the water. Imagine Peter's surprise when he
does! That is, until he lost sight of Jesus and his goal and fell into the
water. So too, when I take my eyes off
of my loving Creator it is then that I fall. That is not to say that it is easy to stay
focused without getting scared, but with prayer and by taking time to just “be”
it is easier to keep my eyes focused on God who is calling. This day I find myself especially blessed to
have many wonderful friends in and out of the Congregation who call me to task
and help me keep my focus where it should be when it wavers.
And so, I
thought I’d also share a reflection on the boat and what it says to me today:
All about
the boat
that it is
for me today
trusting as
I walk.
Walk on
unknown ground,
trusting in
what I can’t see
finding that
I can.
Trust God’s
leading glance,
knowing he
will uphold me
through all
that will be.
